What’s Included in Your Fire Risk Assessment
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, every business must appoint a ‘Responsible Person’ (usually the owner, employer or landlord) to ensure a suitable and sufficient Fire Risk Assessment is carried out.
Recent changes under the Building Safety Act 2022 mean that all businesses – regardless of size or number of employees – must now have a fully documented, written Fire Risk Assessment.
Failing to comply can lead to heavy fines, business closure or even prosecution. It can also invalidate your insurance if you can’t prove you have a current Fire Risk Assessment in place.
A proper Fire Risk Assessment is about more than just ticking a legal box:
• Protecting people – making sure staff, customers and visitors can escape safely.
• Protecting your assets – reducing the risk of damage to buildings, stock and equipment.
• Protecting your business – keeping your insurance valid and your livelihood secure.
